Titus 2 / Acts 2:46 Discipleship

What discipleship looks like at HCF

HOW? – The office will send out a weekly document on Sundays with application questions pertaining to Sunday and Wednesday sermons from the previous week.

WHAT? – The small groups will not be focused on a teaching; simply talking through questions on how to apply what we are learning together, talking about what we are learning in our daily Bible reading plan (per the app), talking about the ways in which God is calling us to be sent (Acts 1:8), and praying for one another. As in Acts 2:42, we would encourage a time of applying the Word, (apostle’s doctrine), fellowship (spiritual encouragement), breaking of bread (eating together, getting coffee etc.), and praying together.

WHO? - These groups can be between 2-10 persons in order that fellowship may remain intimate. This can be done with your immediate family, a couple of families, a group of friends, or with the lost people you may want to reach out to in your neighborhood.

WHERE? In your homes, in a coffee shop, in a park, or any setting that would allow for intimate fellowship, prayer, and discussion over God’s Word.

WHEN? – Whenever the Lord leads, we simply ask that it would NOT be during the times of our regular worship services (Sunday, Sunday night prayer, Wednesday church family night or men’s and women’s meetings) as this would be counterproductive.  Groups can be for a season, for a summer, for a year, or for several years. If groups grow too big, it may also be time for making two or more groups as this is good and healthy growth.

WHY? – As the fellowship grows, we believe having intimate fellowship with one another in our homes, or in any intimate setting, is productive for building discipleship relationships. That is the model in the Scriptures. As the Lord grew the church, the church spontaneously also met in those intimate settings (Acts 2:46, 5:42). We see the church meeting in the “temple” (the corporate setting), but also from house-to-house (the intimate setting).

  • ACCOUNTABILITY? – This ministry falls under the umbrella of HCF, but encouraged to be led by the Holy Spirit, which will always be under the direction of the Word of God. There will be no leader, per se, only someone to facilitate. We would ask that in accordance to God’s Word, there would not be inappropriate settings with male and female, one-on-one discipleship (Titus 2), nor would a woman be put in a position to teach men (1 Timothy 2). If there is found to be any unbiblical teaching, disunity, or inappropriate behavior, per Scripture, church leadership will intervene and gently correct in order to bring health and restoration to the Body.
  • Please let us know of your group meeting (when and where) at the office if you desire to have others looking for a group to join. Be led by the Spirit, and encourage one another in the Great Commission of WIN- DISCIPLE- SEND (our church’s vision) in order that we may touch the world with Christ’s love.
