Acts 2:46 Questions - John 5:16-47 & Phil 4

Purpose

“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42)

As explained in Acts 2:46–47:
“And continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart… And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

And commanded in Titus 2:2-8:
“2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; 3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
6 Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.”

HCF Vision

We believe simple, relational gatherings are the heartbeat of biblical discipleship. These meetings are fulfilling what is described in Titus 2 / Acts 2:42, and are designed to be natural extensions of everyday life — not another program, but a return to how the early church “did life” together.
Scriptural Core Elements of Gatherings:

Breaking of Bread – Enjoy a meal or refreshments together
Fellowship – Spiritual conversation and authentic sharing
Apostles’ Doctrine – Discuss God’s Word and how it applies to real life
Prayer – Pray for one another and for the lost

These gatherings can be used in one-on-one (Titus 2), small group, or family settings (Acts 2:46). Keep them simple, joyful, and reproducible so anyone can host them.

Goal

To Join Jesus in the Great Commission of:

WIN a person to Jesus → DISCIPLE a person in Jesus → SEND a person in Jesus

Application Questions from Bible Studies

On Wednesday Wes taught us from (Philippians 4). He continually used the phrase “live from your position, not your condition” to speak of how we can have joy and peace in any circumstance. Considering this section of scripture would you say you are currently living from your position or condition? Explain how you plan to live out of your position in a specific difficult circumstance this week.

In (John 16:22) Jesus declares that “all” judgment has been committed to Him by the Father. If Jesus will ultimately, and rightly judge all things then where does that leave us in the area of condemnatory judgment upon other people's lives? Use Scripture if possible to explain how this can release us of the responsibility of judgment and instead Love the world with grace and truth? Give specific examples.

In (Vs 24), through faith in the Father and the Son Jesus declares that we have “passed from death into life.” Think of the physical implications of passing from death into life. Think as a group on how that can apply to our spiritual life. What should it look like for someone to pass from spiritual death to life? What has that looked like in your own life?

In (Vs 30) we spoke of the judgment of Jesus being “righteous” and just. Have you ever wrestled with thinking God’s judgment may be unfair someday? How does it comfort you to know that it will be completely righteous?

One of the witnesses Jesus brought to this court hearing was the witness of the Scriptures in (Vs 39-47). In a sense Jesus gave two different ways of searching the Scriptures. One is purely informational “you think in them you have eternal life” and the second is relational “they which testify of Me”. How has your personal reading of the scriptures been lately? Does it cause your heart to burn as the disciples on the road to Emmaus(Luke 24:27. . .)? What does it mean to read relationally, how do you practice this or plan to yourself? Does your reading of the Scriptures bring you into a deeper relationship with Jesus? Explain.

Memory Verse (Psalm 119:11):

(John 5:24) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

2. Fellowship / Breaking of Bread (1 John 1:3-10, James 5:13-16)

Are you suffering?
Do you have any praise to be cheerful about?
Do you have any sickness to pray for healing?
Do you have any sin to confess?

3. Prayer – (1 Peter 5:7, Gal 6:2)

Share how God has answered prayers from our previous gathering and give thanks for His faithfulness. (Review what was written from the previous meeting)
Bear one another’s burdens and pray for one another (write them down)

Send a person for Jesus – (Acts 1:8)

What good works (service in the body of Christ) do you see God preparing you to walk in or have you walked in recently? (Ephesians 2:10) Share and pray about it.
