APOSTLES DOCTRINE (WORD) THROUGH THE BIBLE READING

1. Do you have any thoughts or questions on your “Through the Bible” reading plan?

APPLICATIONS QUESTIONS FROM BIBLE STUDIES:

What is the difference between a knowledge of God that exalts my intellect, makes me “puffed up”, and knowledge that makes me love more like Jesus (verse 1)?

(Vs 1) Does what you know about God exalt you, or lift others to Him in edification?  Explain.

(Vs 2) Does what you know make you more like Jesus, serve more like Jesus, talk more like Jesus, love more like Jesus, or more like a grumpy prideful pagan in all your relationships in life?  Explain.

(Vs 3) Do you love what you know or love the God you know about?  Explain the difference and how you see this played out in your own life.

(Vs 7-8) Can you think of an area of “weakness” in your own life, or a grey area experience you have had in your own life, (or someone else's life) that you have or are still walking in?  How can you walk in love in this situation?

(Vs 9-10) We discussed the fact that “the guiding principle is not my rights or my pleasure but love for the edification of others”.  How have you walked this out in your life? Have you ever held to your “rights” that were nonessential, and what were the results?

We closed with the thought that we can be right to the letter, but wrong in our application (i.e. the disciples in the Samaritan village (Luke 9:52).  Explain where you have seen this in your own life.

What does it mean that truth is governed by love (the person of Jesus (Eph 4:15)? Can you say that all you believe about what is right is filtered through the person of Jesus, the Word incarnate?

What is the difference between reading your Bible to gather facts, and reading the Bible to hear the voice of the Savior you “know” experientially? Explain, and explain your current experience in reading the Bible. Why does it matter?
