APOSTLES DOCTRINE(WORD)
  • THROUGH THE BIBLE READING
  • Do you have any thoughts questions on your “Through the Bible” reading plan

  • APPLICATIONS QUESTIONS FROM BIBLE STUDIES:
  • In verses 1-14, Paul discusses the (from other Scripture also) the “right” that he had to receive support from the Corinthians in the ministry.  Why is the right to minsters important, and in what ways have you seen this abused within the Christian world?  What should be our perspective on this?

  • Paul’s motive for sacrificially forsaking his “right” to financial support from the Corinthians is in verse 16.  I often say, and I think Scripture supports the idea that a true calling isn’t a job, but something I would pay to do if necessary. Why did Paul do this? And do you have a call upon your life that so stirs your heart that you would say, “Woe is me if I did not ____________”.  How do you plan on walking in this calling?

  • In verses 19-23, Paul talks about how he becomes a “servant” and “all things to all men” in order that some might be saved? Is there anything that you are holding onto in your own life that is your right - comfort, preference, etc. - that may be a hinderance to someone hearing the gospel? What is it, and how do you plan on giving this up?  Consider Mark 8:35 along with this question.

  • In verses 24-27, Paul gives us his eternal perspective in the imagry of competition for the prize. What are some rights, comforts, priotirties that you have ever forsaken to compete or win something before? Consider some of the things professional athletes endure in order to win. They do this for a “perishable crown”.  In what way are you preparing for the finish line, and to receive the “imperishable crown” of saved souls standing before God someday. Note 1 Thess 2:19. Can you say you are running “in such a way” that you may obtain it? Explain your answer.

  • What trivial matters in your life no longer matter or would no longer matter if you had a greater love for the lost souls of the world? Maybe ask yourself the question, when we are standing before the throne with sould saved, casting crowns at the feet of Jesus (Rev 4), or 100 years from now, what matters to you today that wont matter then? Explain your answer.

  • MEMORY VERSE: (1 Corinthians 9:25)  - “And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things.  Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.”
